Special Delivery from Ruediger Students

ruediger post office

Kindergarten students from Ruediger Elementary visited the local post office on Monday. They learned all about how the mail system works, and were able to go “behind the scenes” in the mail room to learn more about what mail carriers do.  They even got to mail a special valentine letter they made to their parents. A wonderful learning experience was had by the students and then enjoyed the afternoon with lunch at Levy park.

Ruediger Elementary Students Get Hands-on STEM Education…

Ruediger’s STEM Club, consisting of twenty-three 4th and 5th graders, had their first meeting on this month.  Students of Ebe Randiree, in the FSU College of Communication, came to work with our students under the supervision of fifth grade teachers, Melissa Olson and Candace Gautney.

The students learned about the inner workings of a computer by having the opportunity to take apart the computer, learn about the parts, and then put it back together.  They also are becoming familiar with the networking site Edmodo, and are working on their typing skills with Dance Mat Typing, a free web-based typing practice program.  Future sessions will include PowerPoint and Prezi, Garage Band, iMovie, Google Maps and QR codes, as well as Robotics.  The students and teachers are excited about this new adventure and look forward to learning all they can in the STEM fields!

Ruediger Students Win Local Veteran’s Day Contest

Pictured are the fourth grade students from Ms. Bartlett’s class at Ruediger Elementary who won the Veteran’s Day essay contest sponsored by the Pilot Club of Tallahassee. First place was NaJiyah Gilliam (right), second place was Vincent Vickers (center), and third place was Simone Gammons (left). Each earned a medal, a certificate, and a cash prize.

Their assignment was to interview someone in order to respond to the questions: What is a veteran? How do veterans help our country? The students enjoyed interviewing family members to learn about their experiences being veterans. They gained much insight and knowledge into the commitment and courage it takes when being in the armed services!!
